Festivals are at the heart of the global Ska community. Where would we be without them? In recent years they have become more and more central. Not only as the place to watch a bunch of great bands in a special atmosphere.

Festivals are also fairs where we can browse for vinyl records, something that has become nearly impossible otherwise after most of the record shops have closed down. Plus, we can purchase t-shirts and other stuff. More and more often other events are added like film presentations, book presentations, exhibitions … the list goes on. Which comes on top of the meeting of like-minded, good-looking people from everywhere.

Some festivals attract fans from around the world. It would be cool to see even more traveling and meeting of Ska loving people. That’s why we try to highlight these events as best as we can. There will be a poll category “Best Festival” at REGGAE STEADY SKA from now on at the end of the year. And there will also be a festival section in the Ska Music Yearbook 2013. Let’s come together.

You can view a global list of the festivals that are relevant to the ska community here. There is also a world map of these festivals made up of festival posters.  Plus, we installed a beta version of a global ska calendar for your free use. Do you like to give a shout out to your favourite festival? Just use the comments. Thanks and see you soon.

Let’s hear about your festival.
